Project Scope

BAT Cameroon was unjustly disposed of its approximately ten hectares land right in Bastos, Yaoundé in June 2024. The project aimed to protect BATC's corporate reputation, secure the return of the land, and address the situation publicly through strategic communications.

Ensure that the unjustly seized land is returned to BATC

Manage and protect BATC's reputation during and after the crisis to ensure the continuity of its operations in the country.

Build positive relations with key stakeholders, including government officials, media, and the public.

Our Approach

Step One: Developed and distributed press releases to local and international media, emphasizing the injustice of the expropriation and calling for action. Highlighted the legal and ethical violations involved in the seizure.

Step Two: Organized press briefing with the BATC lawyers for extended conversation on the situation and also to advocate for the return of the land.

Step Three: Leverage influencers for digital conversations

Step Four: Distribute an open letter to the President of Cameroon on local and international platforms.

Result

The Government of Cameroon issued an order for the return of BATC's land, marking a successful outcome of the crisis management efforts.

The campaign generated over 80 mentions across print, electronics and social media platforms.

The campaign gained traction in major national and international media.

Outcome

The Cameroon government issued an official order to the Ministry of Lands to return the BATC land right, marking a successful outcome of the crisis management efforts.
